Part 2 I stayed with my mother in the bathroom until the first police car arrived – News

I stayed with my mother in the bathroom until the first police car arrived. Judge Thorne had moved faster than I expected. Within twenty minutes, two officers and a social worker specializing in elder protection were standing in the living room.

Julian’s face went white the moment he saw the badges.

“What the hell is this?” he demanded. “You can’t just—”

“Sit down,” one of the officers said. “Both of you.”

Chloe tried to smile, the same polished, impatient smile she had worn at the door. “There must be a misunderstanding. Our mother-in-law is confused. She falls easily. We’ve been doing our best—”

I stepped forward and handed the officer my phone. The photographs were already uploaded to a secure folder, timestamps intact. The audio recording of my mother’s statement played clearly in the quiet room.

Julian’s voice cracked. “Elena, don’t do this. She’s old. She doesn’t know what she’s saying.”

My mother sat on the couch wrapped in a blanket, still trembling, but her eyes were steady for the first time that day.

“I know exactly what I’m saying,” she whispered. “You tied me to the bed. You hit me. You sold my cabin. You took my money. And you told me my daughter didn’t care.”

Chloe’s composure finally broke. “You ungrateful—”

“Enough,” the officer cut in. “Mr. and Mrs. Vance, you’re both under arrest for elder abuse, false imprisonment, and financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.”

Julian lunged toward me as the handcuffs clicked shut. “You’ll destroy this family!”

I met his eyes without flinching.

“You already did.”
